Al Maktoum International Airport will be the largest airport in the world once fully constructed.
Prepare to have your minds blown because Dubai is about to build the world’s biggest airport. The city is going all out to create the Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central. And get this, it will have a capacity of up to 255 million passengers annually. Now that’s called: go big or go home.
Dubai South, the urban master developer, revealed the details of the project. They tweeted that Al Maktoum International Airport will be the largest in the world once fully constructed. But it’s not just an airport; it’ll be part of a multi-modal transport infrastructure connecting air, land and sea. It will also offer a business-friendly free zone and a wide range of places to call home.
A whopping $2.7 billion contract has been approved to build Concourse 1 and the West Terminal building which are going to be bursting with tunnels, state-of-the-art baggage handling systems, road networks and support facilities. It’s like a playground for airport enthusiasts and engineers.

And it’ll also have eight districts such as Aviation City, Commercial City, Dubai Logistics City, Golf City and Residential City. Each district will be like a little neighbourhood of its own, adding some serious pizzazz to Dubai World Central.
Al Maktoum International Airport’s journey started in 2010, focusing on cargo operations, and in 2013, they added passenger services to the mix. There was a little hiccup during the pandemic and construction had to take a little break. But recently, the Dubai International Airport recorded 66.1 million passengers in 2022 which fired up things at Dubai World Central again.
The expansion project covers an area of 56 square kilometres and is a testament to Dubai’s unwavering commitment to ruling the skies. With Al Maktoum International Airport’s prime location and facilities, Dubai is about to unleash an aviation wonder like never before.
