Egypt welcomes 4.6 million tourists in first 4 months of 2024

In 2023, Egypt received a record-breaking number of tourists, reaching 14.906 million

Egypt’s tourism revenues hit $4.3 billion over the first four months of 2024, according to the country’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa. Moreover, the minister added that the country received 4.6 million tourists during the four-month period. This marks the second-highest number of visitors to the country following the previous record of 4.7 million tourists in the same period of 2019.

2023 sees all-time high

Additionally, in 2023, Egypt received a record-breaking number of tourists, reaching 14.906 million, which surpassed a previous record of 14.731 million tourists in 2010. Tourism revenues rose by 8 percent year on year (YoY) to about $13.2 billion last year.

Continued growth in 2024

Lately, Ghada Shalaby, Egypt’s vice minister for tourism, said the number of tourists visiting Egypt in the first four months of 2024 increased by 27 percent. This growth was driven by inbound tourism from Arab countries, which saw a 54 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, she added. 

New 5-year multiple-entry visa to boost Egypt’s tourism industry

In June 2023, Egypt’s Interior Ministry announced the introduction of a new five-year, multiple-entry visa for foreign visitors. This was part of the country’s recent efforts to boost its tourism industry.

Furthermore, the new visa scheme allowed visitors to stay in Egypt for up to 90 days per trip, with the ability to make multiple entries over a five-year period. The visa fee is set at $700. The existing types of visas available will remain unaffected by this new offering.
