Destination Cyprus: Laid-back luxury reigns supreme at Almyra Hotel

Located in Paphos, the five-star hotel is a dreamy destination.

Almyra Hotel in Cyprus is a masterclass in laidback luxury. Located in Paphos, the five-star hotel is a dreamy destination, which combines a chic aesthetic with a chilled vibe. On arrival, the porter carried our suitcases to the room and picked flowers from the bushes. “Smell this,” he smiled, “it’s lavender and rosemary.”

Spanning over eight acres of gorgeous gardens, Almyra Hotel celebrates spectacular sea views. In 2020, the hotel underwent a refurbishment, and it maintains a minimalist, modern design with universal appeal. And, if you’re craving convenience, it’s close to the attractions and the airport.

Rooms and suites

Almyra Hotel is home to 187 rooms and suites, each oozing an understated elegance. The development feels like an exclusive community, thanks to the block buildings resembling houses and expansive layout. We checked into the Seafront Kyma Suite, and were treated to welcome drinks and fruit. Spanning 47 square metres, the design was clean and classy. The soft whites were punctuated by shades of blue and dark brown furniture.

We won’t judge you if you linger for longer, as the bed and sofa are in a prime position to enjoy the Insta-friendly view. Best of all, the floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the sea, and it opens up onto a private terrace. Take your pick from the table with chairs or sun loungers, and you can enjoy your own little lap of luxury. The little luxurious continue in the bathroom, which is superbly spacious with Acqua di Parma products.

Restaurants and bars

Almyra Hotel is home to a range of restaurants: Aeras, Antasia, Eauzone, Notios and Ouzeri. Mosaics is at the heart of the hotel, and it is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The brimming buffet meant that we could try something different every day, and the live cooking stations kept us entertained. Plus, the pool bar is a small yet sleek spot, which is open during the day for beverages and bites.

Notios is an alluring alfresco restaurant, which fuses Japanese cuisine with Mediterranean flavours. It sounds like it shouldn’t work, but we were swooning over the sea views and fusion menu. Antasia is a short walk away and is a bustling beach club, bar and restaurant, which serves Asian and Mediterranean dishes – we loved the Crispy Mediterranean Seabass with its fusion of flavours. The Greek restaurant Ouzeri is oh-so-romantic with its floral pergolas, guitarist, and wine list.

Facilities

Almyraspa is a stunning and serene spot. So many spas are located in the basement of hotels, but this makes the most of the sunlight and sea views. Situated in its own contemporary white building, the venue boasts a rooftop lounge, indoor and outdoor pools, and sauna and steam rooms in the basement.

The menu includes body contours, facials, massages, express treatments and treatments for two. The Fusion Massage was the highlight of the stay, thanks to the intuitive therapist Anna. Having previously worked in hospitals, she took a holistic approach and we left feeling refreshed. Plus, there is a state-of-the-art gym, classes from pilates to yoga classes, cycles for hire and water sports.
