Saudi Arabia’s non-oil economy kicked off 2025 on a positive note as business conditions improved significantly. This enhancement was primarily driven by the fastest growth in total new orders since June 2011, leading to rapid expansions in both activity and inventory levels.

The seasonally adjusted Riyad Bank Saudi Arabia Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) climbed to 60.5 in January, up from 58.4 in December. This increase not only indicated substantial growth in operating conditions at the beginning of 2025 but also marked the highest level since September 2014.

Four out of five sub-components of the PMI contributed positively to the headline figure in January, with the New Orders Index showing an increase of over five points during the month. This index reflected the most significant rise in new work intakes in more than 13.5 years. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s non-oil economy experienced a boost in export sales, which played a crucial role in the surge in total new orders. The latest data revealed the fastest growth in foreign demand in 18 months in January.
