Mubadala invested in GlobalFoundries in 2009, anticipating the growth of chips as an enabling technology for the modern era
During his official visit to Singapore, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visited GlobalFoundries, a leading global semiconductor manufacturing company, majority owned by Mubadala Investment Company.
During the visit, Sheikh Khaled met with GlobalFoundries’ executive leadership and toured the company’s key facilities. He reviewed the innovation center, gaining insight into cutting-edge semiconductor advancements that provide essential technology solutions for industries such as automotive, telecommunications, and data centers.
He also visited the company’s control center and reviewed the sophisticated operational systems that ensure seamless semiconductor production at every stage, in line with the highest international standards and specifications to address the needs of various key industries.
Cooperation in semiconductor manufacturing
Sheikh Khaled emphasized the UAE’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Singapore across various vital technological sectors, particularly in semiconductor manufacturing. This cooperation would support efforts to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic and technological development in areas of mutual interest between the two nations.
Mubadala invested in GlobalFoundries in 2009. The company played a shaping role in the semiconductor sector, anticipating the importance and growth of chip fabrication as an enabling technology for the modern era. In addition, GlobalFoundries has a global footprint with operations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. GlobalFoundries’ Nasdaq IPO, in October 2021, was the largest semiconductor IPO globally by market capitalization.

Stronger UAE-Singapore bilateral relations
During the visit, Sheikh Khaled also held official talks with His Excellency Lawrence Wong, Prime Minister of Singapore, at the Singapore Parliament House. Wong warmly welcomed Sheikh Khaled, highlighting the significance of this visit in reinforcing collaborative ties and promoting joint efforts across all fields between the UAE and Singapore.
The discussions focused on enhancing strategic bilateral relations and exploring avenues for further development across various sectors. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Prime Minister of Singapore also reviewed the strong bilateral relations between the two countries. In addition, they recognized the ongoing efforts by both nations to expand their collaboration across various key sectors.
During the meeting, Sheikh Khaled reaffirmed the significance of strengthening UAE-Singapore partnerships. He also underscored the mutual visions that unite the two countries and their people. Moreover, he highlighted the importance of cooperation across developmental, economic, and technological fields. This includes key sectors such as AI, advanced technology solutions, innovation, clean energy, and urban planning.
Sheikh Khaled and Wong then attended a ceremony of exchanging memoranda of understanding (MoUs) between UAE and Singaporean entities and organizations to foster collaboration in key areas. During the visit entities from both countries signed 10 agreements in key sectors.
