Omantel, leading integrated telecommunications services provider in Oman, and Innotech, a company that provides prototyping and manufacturing services, have signed a cooperation agreement to increase fish population with 3D printed artificial reefs.

The collaboration aims to enhance the nation’s marine ecosystem. The 3D concrete printing technology enables the design and customization of reef structures, including complex features such as crevices, caves and ledges, providing shelter and feeding areas to fish, thus boosting fish population.

The agreement was signed by Eng. Aladdin Bait Fadhil, CCO of Omantel, and Othman Al Mandhari, Founder & CEO of Innotech, at Omantel headquarters, Muscat.

“The depleting fish populations in the sea are a matter of concern all over the world. At Omantel, we are acutely aware of this situation and have therefore decided to partner with Innotech to support this initiative to boost fish yield by creating artificial reefs. Innotech’s 3D concrete printing solution offers unprecedented benefits and we are confident that mutual concerted efforts from both sides will help us achieve the goals we have set. Supporting environmental initiatives has always been a main driver to our CSR strategy.”

Omantel found the ideal partner for this initiative in Innotech. Innotech is a 100 percent startup that employs graduates from recognized Omani universities and colleges to center on modern technologies. The company has also developed the first locally manufactured 3D concrete printer.

The artificial reefs act as a tool for reef restoration as well as conservation efforts. The study of marine organized settlements and growth patterns enables researchers to evaluate the overall ecological impact.

Through meticulous design, material composition and ongoing controls, the implementation of artificial reefs using 3D concrete printing can result in economic benefits for local communities, including tourism-related businesses. 3D concrete printing is a type of additive manufacturing that can create buildings and construction components, which were unattainable before the use of traditional concrete molds.

Omantel aims to offer high-quality experience to its subscribers and strive to always exceed their expectations. The goal of the company is to assist in achieving the objectives of Oman vision 2040 by investing in innovative technologies and offering advanced solutions, such as cloud solutions, ICT solutions, AI, Smart solutions and to strengthen its leadership in technology sector.
