NBA sets attendance record for 2023-24 regular season

North American basketball’s NBA has set attendance records for the second consecutive year in the 2023-24 regular season.

The league set all-time marks for total attendance, average attendance, percentage of capacity, and sellouts for the campaign that concluded on Sunday (April 14).

The total attendance of 22,536,341 in the 2023-24 regular season surpasses the previous record of 22,234,502 set last season.

The other records include 872 sellouts (up from the previous record of 791 in 2022-23), 71% of games sold out (up from 63%), and an average attendance of 18,322 (up from 18,077). Additionally, NBA arenas were filled to an all-time-high 98% capacity.

A total of 10 teams sold out every home game: Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, and Sacramento Kings. 

The record-setting season also saw fans from more than 150 countries and territories attend regular-season games.

In conjunction with the start of the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, the NBA recorded its highest-ever average attendance for November (18,208). 

The NBA Play-In Tournament will begin today before the 2024 NBA Playoffs get underway on Saturday (April 20).

In the Eastern Conference play-in games, the Philadelphia 76ers will face the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls take on the Atlanta, while in the Western Conference, the Los Angeles Lakers face the New Orleans Pelicans and the Sacramento Kings will host the Golden State Warriors as they seek to claim the final playoff spots.
